Working well with SmartThings and Hue
I have this set up to turn on/off my Hue kitchen lights based on motion and light level in the room using SmartThings. Working great. The unit’s light sensor is helpful because it means you are only triggering the room lights to turn on when it is actually dark. SmartThings lets you include this parameter when programming the action to turn on the lights. With SmartThings, you can also program the room light(s) to turn off when motion is not detected for a period of time. This motion sensor is accurate enough to handle it.It has a noticeable green light in the upper-right corner of the front face that flashes when it detects motion. It is noticeable and brighter than typical. According to the documentation and some forums, you can access the customization parameters to disable the green light and adjust a few other parameters. I didn’t dive that deep. These options aren’t on the surface in SmartThings and require more advanced knowledge.Of course, you can use this motion sensor as a trigger for all sorts of things. I’m just using it for my Hue lights.I’m not using the temperature sensor but it does work.Overall, I am satisfied with this sensor. It reliably picks up motion and the light sensor makes it perfect for my application. I am getting no false triggers. Plus, it’s small. The only downside is the green light on motion. It’s a little bright. Minor.(photo: the motion sensor is sitting next to a SmartThings button on a shelf in front of a window)

    Works Well
I have been using the device for about 3 weeks in an outdoor shed about 100ft from the nearest repeater and it has been working without any issues. The setup was a pain with a Zstick as you need to follow special instructions in the manual available online from the mfg. Those instructions were not in the printed guide. The sensor never stopped working even as temperatures reached -28°F. The battery that came with the product appears to be low quality, and the battery level dropped like a rock in the cold weather. I suspect a higher quality battery will fare better in the cold weather.

    About 90% accurate
I got this for turning on the garage light when I walk in the side door, since there’s no switch by that door. It set up without a hitch, and was immediately found by my Samsung SmartThings hub. I was able to set up a rule so that if it detected motion it would turn on my GE in-wall Z-Wave switch as well as a Sylvania Z-Wave wall plug hooked up to my bench lights. I set up another rule to turn it all off after 5 minutes of no motion detected. The rules work great, though if I’m sitting at the bench for an extended amount of time I have to turn off the “no motion detected” rule or else it shuts off on me.Overall I’m pleased with the purchase, and it mostly works as expected. I dropped off a star because it doesn’t always register, so I wind up having to wave my arms around like a lunatic trying to get it to trigger in a dark room. That’s only once in a great while, but it’s frustrating when it occurs.

    Device is junk
The connectivity of this thing is really bad! Most of the sensors would never report in. The design is also flawed as it won’t stay at the angle you set it. Look elsewhere for a better product.

Short Life Span for $60+ – Read for Info and Pics
Yes, these work well, but beware of the very short life for the cost of the item at $60+. You can generally only expect 1.5 to 2 years. The one I am reviewing is 1.7 years old, but others have failed over time too.In the case of this unit, it will not stop sensing motion making any motion sensing useless. See attached pics. The other night I noticed the porch lights stuck on. I have this unit to detect back motion and turn on the porch lights for 2 minutes. In checking the sensor, it does nothing but detect motion, stop, then detect motion again, multiple times per minute. See Pic 1. Put it in a box, in a closet, basement, anywhere and it now does the same. No stopping it. This unit is mounted on a back porch and has no weather contact. The one on my front porch also failed about 6 months ago. It was maybe 1.5 years old. Same issue, only it just had weird motion sensing, but none the less, false motion sensing. It is also way up on a wrap-around porch15′ from the overhang. And these two sensors replaced others which had failed before. Needless to say, I’m not buying these anymore. (I switched to ThirdReality sensors which just detect motion, no temp or lighting or humidity sensor.)Hope this helps you decide and maybe Aeotec will see it too.

So much better than the MultiSensor 6.
I have a MultiSensor 6 which is an ok sensor. The biggest problem i have with it is that the real world range on the MultiSensor has never been anything to be excited about. In my situation, i had it placed in a room opposite the door so that when i walked in (depending on hour and other decisions), it would start some automation, one of which was to turn on the lights. The problem i had was that it would only trigger when i was already pretty much at the sensor, even on the highest sensitivity.Based on a few reviews i decided to give the TriSensor a shot and it’s so much better! The motion detection range seems to have increased considerably. So much so that i had to change its location as when placed next to the MultiSensor it triggered when someone walked by the room without entering it.Temperature sensor and lux sensor both seem consistent which is also an upgrade from the MultiSensor where the temperature always seemed to be quite a bit off despite fixing offsets.I wish the TriSensor also had a RH sensor, but it’ll do.Add to that the the TriSensor also looks better (IMO) and has a diffuser on the multi colored LED, and it’s pretty much a win for me.I assume Aeotec will soon phase out the current model of the MultiSensor 6 and replace it with this design, but for now, i’m happy with the TriSensor.Note that i’m using SmartThings, and the DH that Aeotec recommended on the support page was giving me issues. Once i found the DH from “krlaframboise” i started really loving this little sensor.

This is a very good motion sensor, I have 4 of those and they work perfectly, battery life is very good. Note that this is a z-wave sensor and you need a hub to use it.

  8. Alex Ogle

Aeotec really need to describe how this product works much more clearly. I have it paired to my SmartThings hub with some interesting behaviour.Motion is detected over a fair distance with fairly large movements, and reported instantly. The online manual says range is 7 metres but the marketing claim is 9.5 metres, however, there is no statement of field of view, which I’d estimate at about 120°. Around 30 seconds later (with no motion) the state reverts.Temperature and light is reported as accurately as needed but it is not clear how often it reports those in. The temperature sensor is within the product and is very slow to respond, to the point that it seems stuck. The light sensor can report quickly, but doesn’t. There doesn’t seem to be a fixed schedule to readings. Sometimes, the SmartThings app says the sensor isn’t connected but then it suddenly corrects itself. It seems to read often enough for my automation, but I’d rather know how it works to ensure my schemes are robust. It seems that every time it updates to the hub, a green LED flashes. This may be useful but it is bright. Fortunately, it is brief, but it is a bit distracting at night (I am using mine as a presence sensor in my living room to activate lights when things get dim). The battery is a rather large CR123A lithium 3V. This seems a foolish decision as that same battery size also comes as alkaline 1.5V. It won’t work with the latter. Also, there is nothing to prevent someone inserting the battery the wrong way around other than some none-too-distinct polarity marks moulded in the plastic. The instruction manual makes a complete hash of the pairing procedure. It tells you to replace the rear of the product after pulling the battery tab but then says you need a five digit number that is printed on the inside of the rear cover. It also requires you to push a button that is not labeled and is hidden next to the battery. The rear cover does not come away from the product smoothly and is awkward to replace. This is a functional product, but Aeotec really should have put more effort into describing it better.

  9. Amazon Customer

It does what it says it will do. Set up very easily. To detect it you have to put it near the vera controller. After that, you can put it anywhere. Very happy with it. Will have to get a new battery for it eventually.

This is very expensive for what it does and the quality of the material. it’s space of very cheap feeling plastic. There are much better and more stable options available. I have had this for a few months now and though I was initially recommending it, I can no longer do this as I am finding that it keeps “crashing”. It becomes unresponsive and I have to remove its battery and reinsert it for it to recognize motion and come online again. It makes it pretty much useless. When it works, I like that it provides the room illumination.

  11. JPLLemay

Motion, temperature and lightings works very well and it never disconnect after a week of use !
